I think what has been printed in the paper is horrible. I was a member at SLS and I NEVER saw anything like what is being printed. SLS helped me, and the staff was always caring and professional. I feel bad for those people who go the extra mile and get their name dragged through the mud for it (like Gabe , Matt , Al , Joe and Sean)I guess anyone can just make a false statement and it gets in the paper.

I had a brother who went SLS, and it was the best thing he ever did. He came home a new man. My parents had enough of him stealing from them and bullying them. He went to other places and within a few days was always thrown out because they just couldn't (didn't want to) deal with him. He tried to do the same at SLS. He acted out, he was abusive toward the staff, but they dealt with it. He even ran away and the staff kept at it till they found. No other place did so much for someone who was so difficult. I have a new brother now. He still has difficult days, but he is different. He tries to do what is right, and he has started college again. I for one am thankful for SLS and the great work their staff do. I am happy that this blog exists. I tried to write a positive message on another one, but it would not be published. These are my 2 cents for anyone who cares. Thank you SLS. Keep up the good work.

Our daughter came home for christmas, her second visit since April. We were truely impressed by her progress and new insight into her disorder. She told us that she interviewed with OMH and told them that the program is working for her and asked OMH not to change the current structure. We believe that she would not have said this earlier in her stay. She also spoke very highly of the key staff members who interface with her on a regular basis. She even referred twice to SLS as "home", which is about as strong an endorsement as SLS can get. She is returning to SLS with a positive attitude and knows that she has more work ahead of her before she will be ready to leave the program. We are more optimistic than we have been in years. Let's keep moving forward.
